Phthalocyanine Green is a popular synthetic green coloured pigment which is sold by the Green Pigment manufacturing company under various commercial names. This is extremely useful in today’s manufacturing units. It is green synthetic pigment belonging to the group of the phthalocyanine dyes which is a complex element of copper II along with chlorinated phthalocyanine.

How does it look?

It has a soft texture with dark green colour shade and is insoluble in water. It owns a bright and high-intensity colour which is used commonly in oils and the acrylic paints. Apart from it, it is also used in several other applications.

Making of the Phthalocyanine Green

Phthalocyanine Green is usually derived from another component, Phthalocyanine Blue, by undertaking the process of chlorination with aluminium trichloride present in the reaction. The pigment contains a mixture of several isomers and different degrees of chlorination, some of which are even quite difficult to install. During the preparation of this compound, several substituents if chlorine is present which are strongly electronegative.

Due to the charge, the spectrum if absorption shifts from the parent component, copper phthalocyanine. It is a highly stable pigment which is resistant to alkali, acids, different solvents, heat, and even ultraviolet radiation.

It can be said phthalocyanine green is a polymer encapsulated pigment which is prepared using an inorganic acid radical. As per the reports, the aluminium pigment gets encapsulated by a very thin layer of a polymer which provides it with the anti-corrosion property against both alkali and acid.

Variations of Phthalocyanine Green

The polymers show remarkable shifts in term of chemical along with a rapid increase in the level of binding energy to the higher level, once the raw aluminium pigment gets coated by phosphate and provided colour using the phthalocyanine green pigment.

As per the TGA reports, the marginal reduction is observed in the thermal stability of the compound once Phthalocyanine Green is added. Usually, aluminium is coated with this pigment to provide with amazing UOF properties. However, the thickness of the coating should be uniform and thin else the quality of the fabric gets badly affected.

The usual thickness of the coating ranges below 0.4 mm. The pigment portrays amazing rubbing and washing fastness, but colour strength gets compromised when applied on the cotton fabric. The pigments are greatly used in the preparation of the polymer encapsulated pigments of aluminium which is used in various waterborne textile applications.

What are the uses of Phthalocyanine?

As per the Phthalocyanine green pigment manufacturers, the stability of the pigment makes it an ideal compound in the manufacturing of inks, various types of coatings and plastics. During the application process, it is transparent.

As it is insoluble, it does not tend to migrate inside the material. The standard pigment is widely used as the printing ink for laser printers. It is also used in the field of the packaging industry. It is also used in several cosmetics which are not associated with application near or in the eyes. It is also used in tattoos to give the long-lasting effect.
